I am a scholar of religion and race. I use sociological tools to examine the intersections of religion, race, and immigration within Black communities. I seek to understand how the religious lives of Black people shape Black experiences and identity formation.
About
I am an Assistant Professor of Religion at Claremont McKenna College. My current book project, Race, Religion, Marriage, and the Making of Black American Muslims, examines the Muslim marriage process as a site of religious and racial identity formation among single Black American Muslims. I completed my PhD in Sociology at Rice University and my BA in International Studies and Religious Studies at Spelman College. I am a proud Atlanta native.
